Data for Business searching using Vivintel and Statista

Data for Business searching using Vivintel and Statista Online

This session will be useful for anyone engaged in market research of any kind, and will also be useful for those conducting research in the social sciences.

VivIntel is an industry organization created through a partnership between Canadian media organizations and Canadian advertisers.  Their Study of the Canadian Consumer is a comprehensive study that surveys 40,000+ Canadians 365 days a year against 60,000+ variables. They provide quarterly data on Canadian consumer preferences, print and non-print media preferences, product usage and consumer lifestyles.

This session will introduce participants to VivIntel's data mining tool, and instruct on the creation, analysis and export of custom cross-tabs.

Statista is a statistics portal with over one million statistics including: dossiers on trending topics, industry reports, country reports, top lists, surveys, outlook reports on consumer markets, market studies, and daily infographics on global issues. The second portion of this session will cover best practices in searching this platform.

Recording Information

This session will be presented in a webinar format. It will be recorded and made available on the Research Skills Workshops section of the library's website.

Welcome to Research Boot Camp 2025!

The Angus L. Macdonald library presents an in-depth workshop series designed with this summer's research assistants in mind. In this program, librarians and a learning skills instructor will take you through the research process to ensure that you are well-prepared to tackle essential research skills.

This year's sessions will run from May 12-14 through live online presentations, via Blackboard Kwe'. Participants will receive a link to access the online classroom upon registration.

The Boot Camp sessions are free of charge and registration is open to all StFX students, staff and faculty, with a particular focus on the information management needs of research assistants. Participants can choose individual sessions to attend based on your research needs and areas of interest.
