Primary and Secondary Sources for Humanities Research Online
This session will ensure that participants have a firm understanding of what distinguishes a primary source from a secondary source. It will provide an overview of the University Archives, and instruct on the best approach to conducting research in this (and any) archival institution. In the second half, participants will be informed of the best databases available through the Angus L. Macdonald library for secondary source research in the humanities.
Devon Fraser, Archival Assistant at the University Archives, will bring you through the primary source section and introduce you to the University Archives.
Recording Information
This session will be presented in a webinar format. It will be recorded and made available on the Research Skills Workshops section of the library's website.

Welcome to Research Boot Camp 2025!
The Angus L. Macdonald library presents an in-depth workshop series designed with this summer's research assistants in mind. In this program, librarians, an archival assistant and a learning skills instructor will take you through the research process to ensure that you are well-prepared to tackle essential research skills.
This year's sessions will run from May 12-14 through live online presentations, via Blackboard Kwe'. Participants will receive a link to access the online classroom upon registration.
The Boot Camp sessions are free of charge and registration is open to all StFX students, staff and faculty, with a particular focus on the information management needs of research assistants. Participants can choose individual sessions to attend based on your research needs and areas of interest.
Certificates
This workshop series is for professional and scholarly development.
Certificates of completion are available for attending participants.
